Jimmy Carter National Historic Site
A Life of Service
Housed in the historic building where Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter attended school, the Visitor Center and Museum seeks to commemorate their beginnings in rural southern culture, and illustrate their impact on communities – locally and globally. The galleries examine the influence that President Carter’s upbringing had on his political policy through interactive media, tactile displays, and hands-on-activities, and orient guests to the other Jimmy Carter National Historic Sites in town, such as the President’s boyhood home & campaign headquarters.
This multi-layered experience highlights the site’s interpretive themes and promotes experiential learning by facilitating active engagement with content. Guests select videos of Carter’s speeches, place ballots at an interactive station styled like a 1970’s-era voting booth, and leave their thoughts on what it takes to be a leader at the end of the exhibit.
