South Carolina Historical Society Museum
Interpreting State History
Housed in the historic Fireproof Building − the oldest fireproof construction in the country − the museum integrates exhibit design, thoughtful interpretive graphics, and media with Greek Revival architecture to preserve and interpret State history.
Guests hear audio, view film presentations, and engage with touch-screen activities as they move through the exhibits, learning about the people, places, and movements that make South Carolina what it is today. The gallery places a diverse range of perspectives front and center, utilizing casework that allows for the rotation of objects on display as new content is developed.
