The State Historical Museum of Iowa
Culture Connects Iowans
In addition to the original Interpretive Plan for the Museum’s exhibition space, we have created multiple guest experiences in collaboration with the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs:
Hollywood in the Heartland explores the role of theater in Iowan communities, revealing over 75 years of cinematic history through narrated media production, artifact collections, and interpretive graphics.
Riding Through History: A River-to-River Legacy on Wheels celebrates the 40th anniversary of the oldest, largest, and longest non-competitive bicycle-touring event in the world, RAGBRAI: The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. Original content is integrated with personal stories and media presentations to commemorate the tradition.
Iowa History 101 explains “Iowa Basics.” The gallery explores the lives of Iowans through the main themes of home, work, and play, including a hands-on learning gallery for kids! As a companion piece, a traveling exhibition housed in a retro-fitted Winnebago visits all 99 counties in the state, making the Museum accessible across Iowa.
